기술적 대상과 디지털 밀리유의 정치경제학: 질베르 시몽동과 기술문화연구의 접합

이 글은 디지털로 대표적으로 표상되는 현 시기의 기술적 대상과 환경에 대하여 프랑스의 기술철학자 질베르 시몽동(Gilbert Simondon)의 사유와 함께 살펴보고자 하는 시도이다. 이 과정에서 그의 기존 작업들이 기술문화연구와 정치경제학에 가져다 줄 수 있는 새로운 철학적 중요성과 함의를 살펴보고자 한다. 일찍이 시몽동은 주저인 ‘기술적 대상들의 존재양식에 대하여(Du Mode d’Existence des Objets Techniques)’를 통해 ‘기술적 대상(technical objects)'의 이해를 위한 중요한 철학적 토대를 알려주었고 인간과 기계, 문화와 테크놀로지 사이의 관계에 대한 재사유의 길을 열어주었다. 이 글에선 시몽동 철학의 핵심 개념 가운데 하나인 ‘개체화(individuation)’를 통해 ‘적응(adaptation)’이라는 개념이 현재의 디지털 ‘연합 환경(associated milieu)’에서 어떻게 새롭게 결합되고 관계 맺어지는지를 우리 주위에서 일상적인 것으로 자리하게 된 디지털 대상(object) 특히 디지털 데이터를 중심으로 살펴본다. 또한 이와 같은 시몽동 사유의 현재적 접합을 통해 지금 우리에게 매우 시급한 기술문화연구를 위한 비판적이며 정치경제학적인 아젠다를 도출하고자 한다.
Abstract
This work is to re-consider contemporary digital milieu in which contemporary technological objects and their environments co-evolve in the perspectives of French technological philosoper, Gilber Simondon. In doing so, the work tries to look around the new philosophical importance and implication which can be brought by his previous insights toward current technological cultural studies and political economy. This work investigates his influential concept 'individuation' with 'adaptation' with regard to how digital 'associated milieu'(simondon, 1992) co-evolve with digital objects, especially digital data in our everyday lives. This Simondonian approach to connect digital programming culture will bring timely, relevant cirtical and political economic agenda which are very urgent to all.
