Abstract

The author dealt with the following points in this paper. 1. the structure of the P.E.P. edition Yuwen语文 textbooks He examined the arrangement of the texts, the purpose of teaching and learning for each unit or lesson. 2. Analysis of the texts Texts on war account for 16 percent of all the contents of current textbooks. On the assumption that students should think of their nation as the basis, they are different from the others which deal with nature, individual, family, lives in common society of region. Thus those can be said to be quite different in kind from the other texts. In other words, texts on war are not the representative, though they constitute important part of the textbooks. The reasons I took those in this paper as the main materials for analysis despite the fact are 1) that I have to limit the scope of analysis in some aspect in order that I could convey some meaning to the readers in this form of paper, 2) that I have the perception that wars between nations or regions are truely realistic problems of human society that are unavoidable for us. Through the analysis of the war materials in P.E.P. edition textbooks, the writer would see what viewpoint China as a nation wants to implant into the heart of the middle-school students. He pointed as the result that 1) “Is there no problem with the dichotomic viewpoint of war dividing wars into justice(self-defense) war and injustice(invasive) war?”, 2) “Isn't there any problem with the dual viewpoint of civilian genocide which is seen in some texts (Nanjing holocaust vs. Atomic bomb in Hiroshima)?”, 3) “Isn't there any potential harm in some texts that would guide the students into the heroistic approach to the wars?”
