Abstract
As the new US-China Cold War intensified, Korea’s external strategy has been put to the test. The US policy of containing China, which began in earnest five years ago, is expected to continue until China succumbs to the US, as did the Soviet Union. It is now impossible to engage in ambiguous diplomacy and get along moderately well with both the US and China. The Moon Jae-in administration, after reviving in 2017 Roh Moo-hyun’s independent balancing diplomacy, has been leaning too much toward North Korea and China. The US is asking the South Korean government about the future of its alliance policy.
