Fredric Jameson의 포스트모더니즘론으로 전주한옥마을 읽기와 미술교육에 주는 시사점

초록

본 고는 프레드릭 제임슨의 포스트모더니즘론을 이론적 프레임으로 하여 전주한옥 마을을 읽고 미술교사교육에 주는 시사점을 제안해보는 연구이다. 이를 위하여 첫째, 프레드릭 제임슨이 보는 포스트모더니즘과 포스트모던 문화비평에 대해 문헌분석을 통해 파악해보았다. 연구 결과, 포스트모더니즘이란 모든 것을 상품화하려는 기제의 작용으로, 미적 생산물들을 깊이없는 패스티쉬화, 시뮬라크롬화하며, 사람들의 역사성 약화를 야기하는 특징이 있음을 도출할 수 있었다. 따라서 이에 대응할 포스트모던 문화비평으로서 제임슨은 인지적 지도그리기를 통해 우리가 사는 세계의 총체성을 파악할 수 있도록 하는 안을 제안하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 전주한옥마을에 있는 미적 생산물들 중 특히 한옥과 한복을 중심으로 제임슨의 문화비평을 연구방법으로 하여 읽어 보았다. 연구결과, 전주한옥마을에서 포스트모던 문화논리가 세 양상으로 확인되었다. 하나는, 한옥마을의 한옥과 한복들이 패스티쉬하는 특성을 띔으로써, 상품화에 기여하고 있었다. 다른 하나는, 미적 생산물들이 과거의 시뮬라크롬을 구축함으로써 과거에 대해 향수하고자하는 사람들의 소비욕구를 만족시키고 있었다. 다른 하나는 마을에 있는 미적 생산물들이 스타일상으로 그리고 스테오타입으로 과거와 역사에 접근함으로써 역사를 피상으로 소비하는 분열적 주체를 낳게 해 결과적으로 주체의 역사성 약화를 초래할 가능성이 있음이 발견되었다. 본 고는 마지막으로 미술교사 를 상대로 어떻게 포스트모던 문화비평이 가능한지, 전주한옥마을에서의 한복체험을 매개로 하는 인지적 지도 그리기 수업의 예시를 제안하며 글을 맺었다.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to read the Jeonju Hanok Village through the theoretical framework of Fredric Jameson's idea of postmodernism. In addition to this reading of the Hanok Village, this paper suggests how Jameson's ideas impact art education for art educators. To this end, first, I reviewed literature on Fredric Jameson's notion about the postmodernism and postmodern cultural critique. This resulted in the conclusion that commodification underlies postmodernism. Commodification causes depthless pastiche, simulacrum, and weakness to historicity. In response to this cultural logic of postmodernism, it was revealed that Jameson proposes cognitive mapping as postmodern cultural critique enabling people to perceive the totality of their world. Second, I examined the Korean houses(Hanok) and the costumes(Hanbok) in Jeonju Hanok village applying Jameson's cultural critique method. This allowed postmodern cultural logic in the village to have three characteristics. One was that Hanok and Hanbok in the village have characteristics of pastiche, which serves the commodification of the aesthetic products. Another was that the aesthetic products construct the simulacrum of the past, which satisfies tourists who desire consuming the nostalgia of the past. The other was that the aesthetic products in the village approach the past and history by stylistic and stereotypical means, so that it is likely to produce schizophrenic effects on subjects who consume history on the surface and who get rid of historicity at the end. Finally, this paper ends with suggesting an example of a teaching plan focusing on cognitive mapping with the medium of Hanbok in the Jeonju Hanok Village. This teaching plan example is expected to give art educators insight on how to approach postmodern cultural critique.
