Abstract

In this study, based on the re-definition of ‘aviation service’, I selected 139 papers published in the Journal of the Aviation Management Society of Korea, from 2003 to June 2023. I intended to understand their meaning and trends through objective and thematic analysis. The results of this research are summarized as follows; First, as a result of the objective analysis of 139 papers, flight attendants were targeted at 81.6%, and empirical research methods were used at 92.1%. Second, some other important trends from the objective analysis are such as; the number of papers on aviation services accounts for about 20% of all numbers of the Journal of the Aviation Management Society of Korea, and is increasing, albeit slowly, every year, the number of authors per paper is approximately 2, and the number of new authors continues to increase. Third, as a result of topic analysis using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA) method in the subjective aspect, more specific topics such as customer satisfaction, job stress, and service orientation rather than general topics such as compensation management and organizational effectiveness has increased in the second half of the period from 2013 to June 2023. Fourth, as a result of analyzing the changes in topics from 2003 to 2023, the topics such as member competency development, education and training, customer safety, leadership, and emotional labor have been maintained. And the topics such as expertise, stress, work-life balance of flight attendant, and organizational support policies for member have been increased. Fifth, based on these research results, research implications such as activating small groups, for example, the ‘Aviation Service Research Group’, increasing the number of papers applying subjective research methods, for example, case studies or policy papers, diversifying thesis topics, and convergence research with other disciplines, were presented.
