The Mongolian texts represented in Manchu script seem to be a significantfield of study due to extremely limited colloquial data on ModernMongolian language. The Mongolian conversational text-book Chu-xue Zhinan[A beginners guide to learning Mongolian] is one of these works. Thepaper collects the grammatical cases in Chu-xue Zhi-nan and investigatestheir colloquial features by making a comparison between the suffixes ofgrammatical cases in the text in question and the corresponding ones inWritten Mongolian. The paper concludes that the suffixes of grammaticalcases in Chu-xue Zhi-nan are greatly different in form from those inWritten Mongolian and its contemporary Mongolian texts in Manchuriantranscription like San-he Bian-lan, but coincides with the phonetic formsin colloquial Mongolian. In addition, in Chu-xue Zhi-nan, most of thesuffixes are written together with the stems as one word, which furtherdemonstrates their colloquial features.
