Abstract
This study analyzes the subjective perception types of leader phobia among employees. By conducting a review of relevant literature, media materials, and interviews with employees, a Q population was established, from which 32 final Q samples were derived. Responses from 15 P sample participants, categorized into three groups based on whether they had held leadership roles and their future leadership intentions, were analyzed, leading to the identification of four perception types. The first type, “Acceptance of Leadership as a Pathway for Growth,” acknowledges the necessity of leadership experience for long-term growth, agrees with the responsibilities and learning demands it entails, and accepts the need to demonstrate personal performance and capabilities. The second type, “Burdened by Future Responsibilities and Peer Relationships,” highlights concerns over formal accountability as a leader and the potential deterioration of peer relationships or reputation. The third type, “Meaningful, Yet Contemplating Leadership,” expresses reservations about extensive leadership roles but shows a willingness to assume such roles if adequate rewards are provided, while remaining hesitant about the significance of becoming a leader. The fourth type, “Defender of Personal Boundaries,” emphasizes the protection of personal domains, such as workload (and consequently working hours), job demands, mental and physical health, and personal convictions related to work.
