『연경재전집』의 주한잡사(周漢雜事)를 통해 본 고대 한국사회 형성과정 인식
A Study on understanding the formation process of Ancient Korean society through the ‘Zhou-Han Miscellaneous Affairs’ in the 『The Complex Works of Yeongyeongjae』

이 논문에서는 『연경재전집』의 외집(外集)에 수록된 ‘주한잡사’를 통해서 성해응(1760∼1839)이 기록한 고대 중국의 사료를 검토하였다. 그리고 그 내용을 통해서 성해응이 한국사회 형성과정을 어떻게 인식하였는지에 대해서 살펴보았다. 먼저, 성해응의 문집인 『연경재전집』에서 사료고사료(史料故事類) 에 포함되어 있는 ‘주한잡사’의 구성과 내용을 검토하기 위해서 181개 항목의 명칭과 내용을 분류하였다. 아울러 ‘주한잡사’의 출전과 내용을 분류하여‘周의 잡사’와 ‘漢의 잡사’의 성격을 분석하였으며, 그 결과 성해응은 항목을 설정할 때 처음부터 계획적으로 진행하였다기보다는 그때그때 추가하여 서술하였음을 알 수 있었다. 다음으로 성해응이 왜 ‘周의 잡사’와 ‘漢의 잡사’를 상고하였는지 생각해 보았다. 주한시대는 성해응이 살았던 조선 시대와는 너무 먼 시대일 뿐만 아니라, 중국의 고대인 周漢代에 관심을 두었던 이유에 대하여 살펴보고자 하였다. 성해응이 ‘주한잡사’를 통해서 밝힌 사항은 중국 고대의 ‘周의 잡사’와‘漢의 잡사’라고 할 수 있다. 이들 항목은 周代와 漢代의 사실을 반영하고있는 경전과 사서에서 선별하였으며, 서술방식은 성해응 당대의 용어를 소급하여 그 출전과 내용을 분석하였으며, ‘今∼’이라는 표현을 통해서 조선 시대의 사실과 연계하고 있다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 결국 성해응은 조선 시대에 남아 있는 제도나 법률 등에서 그 기원이 周漢 代까지 거슬러 올라간다는 것을 밝히고자 하였음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 점으로 볼 때 성해응은 이 사항들이 周代와 漢代에서 그리 멀리 않은 시점에한국의 고대사회에서도 도입되어 조선 사회까지 이어졌을 것으로 추정하고 있음을 확인해 볼 수 있었다. 성해응 당대인 조선 시대의 제도나 법률은 宋代나 明代의 것에 가까웠을 것이다. 그러나 성해응은 ‘주한잡사’를 통해서 그 기원을 周代와 漢代에서 찾음으로써 조선 사회에서 고대사회로까지 역사적 시야를 확장하였다. 고대 한국사회의 형성과정에 관한 관심은 연경재전집에 나타난 성해응 역사관의가장 큰 특징이라고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
In this article, we reviewed the Ancient Chinese historical materials recorded by Seong, Hae-eung (1760-1839) through ‘Zhou-Han Miscellaneous Affairs’ included in the 『The Complex Works of Yeongyeongjae』. And through that content, we looked at how Seong, Hae-eung perceived the process of forming Ancient Korean society. First, in order to examine the composition and content of ‘Zhou-Han Miscellaneous Affairs’ included in the historical materials section of Seong, Hae-eung’s collected works, The Complex Works of Yeongyeongjae, the names and content of 181 items were classified. In addition, the source and content of ‘Zhou-Han Miscellaneous Affairs’ were classified to analyze the nature of ‘Zhou’s Miscellaneous Affairs’ and ‘Han’s Miscellaneous Affairs’. As a result, it was found that Seong, Hae-eung did not plan the items from the beginning, but rather added to them as they were being described. Next, I considered why Seong, Hae-eung consulted the “miscellaneous affairs of the Zhou Dynasty” and the “miscellaneous affairs of the Han Dynasty.” Not only was the Zhou Dynasty a very distant era from the Joseon Dynasty in which Seong, Hae-eung lived, but I also wanted to examine why he was interested in the Ancient Zhou-Han Dynasty of China. What Seong, Hae-eung revealed through ‘Zhou-Han Miscellaneous Affairs’ can be said to be ‘Zhou’s Miscellaneous Affairs’ and ‘Han’s Miscellaneous Affairs’ of Ancient China. These items were selected from classics and historical books reflecting the facts of the Zhou and Han Dynasties, and the narrative style was analyzed by retroactively analyzing the source and content of terms from Seong, Hae-eung’s time. It was confirmed that they were connected to the facts of the Joseon Dynasty through the expression 'now~'. In the end, it was found that Seong, Hae-eung wanted to reveal that the origins of the systems and laws remaining in the Joseon Dynasty date back to the Zhou-Han Dynasty of China. From this perspective, it can be confirmed that Seong, Hae-eung assumed that these matters were introduced into Ancient Korean society not too far from the Zhou-Han Dynasty of China and continued into Joseon society. The systems and laws of the Joseon Dynasty, the time of Seong, Hae-eung, would have been similar to those of the Song or Ming Dynasties. However, Seong, Hae-eung expanded his historical perspective from Joseon society to Ancient society by finding its origins in the Zhou-Han Dynasty of China through ‘Zhou-Han Miscellaneous Affairs.’ The interest in the formation process of Ancient Korean society can be said to be the most significant characteristic of Seong, Hae-eung’s view of history as expressed in the 『The Complex Works of Yeongyeongjae』.
