ICT기반 구글 퀴즈 활동을 통한 대학 교양영어 학습효과에 관한 연구

본 연구에서는 대학 교양영어에서의 실증적 연구의 일환으로 ICT 기반 모바일 기술을 활용하여교양영어 수업에 새로운 형태의 수업활동을 도입함으로써 학습자들의 관심과 참여도를 높이고 궁극적으로 학습 성취도에도 얼마나 기여하는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 2019학년도 2학기 전체에 걸쳐 모바일 기반 구글 퀴즈를 제작한 뒤 각 퀴즈에 대한QR코드를 세 분반의 학습자들에게 제공하고 이들이 스마트폰 혹은 기기로 스캔한 후 퀴즈 활동을수행하게 하였다. 이렇게 2학기 동안 각 반별 총 21회의 퀴즈 활동을 진행하였고 학습자들의 시험결과를중간시험 및 기말시험으로 비교하여 학업성취도를 조사하고, 학습자들의 대상으로 모바일 퀴즈를 중심으로 한 설문조사도 실시하였다. 실험결과 동일한 학습자 그룹들에 있어서 두 시험 결과 사이의 유의미한 성취도 차이는 나타나지않았다. 반면 구글 퀴즈 수업활동에 대한 학습자들의 설문조사 결과 학습자들은 기존 핸드아웃 중심으로이루어지던 퀴즈보다 모바일 형태의 수업을 더 선호하고 수업활동에 더욱 만족한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 기존 퀴즈 활동과 새롭게 도입한 퀴즈 활동을 조사기간에 맞게 적절하게 구분하지못한 점과 다른 교수자 집단들과의 비교분석을 하지 못한 한계점을 극복할 필요가 있으며, 향후 온라인강의환경에서의 수업활동을 염두에 둔 교수법 및 수업활동 개발 등 추후 연구가 필요하다고 판단된다.
Abstract
As a part of an empirical study in a college level EFL learning environment, a new teaching method using ICT technology has been introduced to increase the participation from groups of university students and its effect was analysed to study how much the method devoted to their achievement scores. To this end, twenty one sets of Google survey-based-quizzes were delivered to the target group of students over the 15 weeks in the fall semester 2019 in an effort to enhance the participation from the learners and see how this approach can have positive effects in learners’ achievement results in terms of written test scores. In addition to comparing scores, a feedback survey was administered to learners in the target group. The study shows the Google based quizzes did not have significant impact on achievement scores within the same groups of learners. The feedback survey, however, indicated that the learners preferred the Google based mobile quizzes to the paper based ones. The limits of the study are that the two different types of quizzes should have been administered in different semester for further clarification, and that the achievement scores could have been compared with other teachers who taught the same courses. The new teaching method needs to be studied for further use in the online based course in the future.
