Abstract
In recent years, webtoon creators have reported physical and mental health problems stemming from the high-intensity demands of creative labor. They experience a range of difficulties arising from the emotional pressure of deadlines, the nature of their work that makes taking a hiatus difficult, and artists’ distinctive emotional traits that interact in complex ways. As the webtoon industry continues to expand, this situation underscores the increasing importance of establishing a system to safeguard the emotional well-being of those working in this occupation. Nevertheless, despite growing recognition of these issues, research on the practical design and implementation of an emotional management system remains limited. This study contends that the emotional problems experienced by webtoon creators in the course of creative work have reached a critical juncture, and therefore investigates the establishment of an emotional management system. It argues that changes are needed across all systems linked to the webtoon industry and that government agencies, public institutions, and private companies should build sustained, regularized systems for psychological care. At a minimum, psychological support education and preventive programs are required, alongside systems for treating psychological problems once they arise. The study further emphasizes the importance of continuous, systematic management grounded in an accurate understanding of creators’ working conditions to prevent or treat psychological distress. Specifically, it proposes a tripartite framework consisting of psychological assessment, psychological prevention, and psychological treatment, and recommends future research on practical operational plans for implementation.
