본 연구의 목적은 2015 개정 교육과정을 기반으로 집필된 초등학교 6학년 영어 교과서 5종에 제시된 쓰기 학습 활동을 지도 접근법, 지도 전략, 쓰기 소재의 세 가지 측면에서 분석하여 그 시사점을 찾는 것이다. 쓰기 지도 접근법은 기능중심 쓰기와 의사소통중심 쓰기의 두 유형으로, 지도 전략은 지도 절차, 언어 기능 통합, 피드백, 참여자 구성의 네 가지 기준으로 나누어 분석하였다. 쓰기 소재는 교육과정에 제시된 19개의 소재를 중심으로 사용 빈도를 분석하였다. 분석 결과에 따르면 6학년 교과서에는 언어의 정확성에 초점을 둔 기능 중심 쓰기가 자기 표현적인 의사소통 중심 쓰기보다 훨씬 더 빈번히 제시되었다. 쓰기 지도 절차 측면에서는 쓰기 전이나 후속 활동 없이 쓰기만 하고 교사가 정답을 확인해 주는 활동이 절반 이상을 차지했고 나머지는 쓰기 전이나 후속 활동이 포함되었다. 언어 기능 통합에 있어서는 다른 언어 기능과의 통합 없이 쓰기만 하는 활동과 말하기와 통합된 쓰기가 비슷한 수준을 보였고 듣기와의 통합이 가장 낮은 비중을 보였다. 피드백에 있어서는 교사가 쓰기 정답을 확인해주는 경우가 가장 빈번했고 다음은 스스로 확인하거나 동료가 피드백을 해주는 순으로 나타났다. 참여자 구성에서는 개별적인 쓰기가 가장 많았다. 지도 전략 측면에서의 이러한 결과는 기능 중심 쓰기가 큰 비중을 차지한 결과와 연관되는 것으로 분석되었다. 마지막으로 쓰기 소재에 있어서는 학교생활, 여가선용, 사회생활, 개인생활 등의 소재가 자주 등장했다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 초등영어 교과서 할용 및 개발에 대한 시사점을 논하였다.
Abstract
This study analyzed writing activities included in the 5 different 6th grade English textbooks. The writing activities were analyzed under the three different criteria: pedagogical approach, instructional strategy and topic. Pedagogical approach was further divided into skill-based writing and communication-based writing and instructional strategy was divided into instructional steps, language skill integration, feedback, and organization of participants. Writing topics were tallied based on the 19 topics suggested in the national English curriculum. The results revealed that skill-based writing activities were adopted about three times as often as communication-based ones. In terms of instructional steps, writing without pre- or post-activities was found to be most frequently used. Regarding language skill integration, writing-speaking integration and no integration showed similar frequencies. The analysis on feedback showed that teacher feedback was the most frequent followed by self and peer feedback in order. Also, writing alone was the most frequently used organization of participants. As for writing topic, school life, leisure, social life and personal life were used often. Based on these findings implications for textbook use and development were suggested.
