Within the framework of Spanish philological tradition, this paper aims at studying morphological and phonetic variation of the terms used to name the atmospheric phenomenon of low fog in the northen Spanish regions, concretely, Aragon, Navarra and la Rioja. 30 different terms in the map 1338 of Atlas lingüístico y etnográfico de Aragón, Navarra y Rioja have been analyzed; 59 phonetic variants of these terms appearing in 114 localities of the aforementioned regions in 136 occasions in totality have been subjected to a detailed inquiry. Further, the simultaneously realized semantic and morphological analyses are expected to cast light on understanding how the speaker’s sensorial or cognitive perception affects language use, that is, for the purpose of naming this highly distinctive natural phenomenon in the regions mentioned above.
