Abstract
This study assume that KIOs refer to organizations whose work is uncertain. Weinvestigated into IR and HRD characteristics of the KIOs using Perrow(1967)'stechnology variables of work. Empirical findings are as follows: First, the HLManalysis shows there is statistically significant variation in the mean of, and in theslopes of uncertainty of work across organizations when regressed on workerseducation in each organization. Second, the next step in the HLM analysis showsthat the impact of IR and HRD characteristics on the levels of uncertainty of workis stronger in organizations with cooperative IR, organizational support for employeedevelopment. These results suggest that commitment oriented HRM is appropriate inKIOs. This study has its limitations since it has restricted variables to be considered. Therefore, it is necessary to describe the KIOs using an interpretive approach.
