Abstract
Longinus' sublime is defined as the spiritual demand of humans to reach the highest peak that transcends the world as they compete with Mother Nature on that spiritual level. This is in line with Burke and Kant's sublime concept, which Burke emphasizes fear and delight, and Longinus explains the sublime centering around soul-shaking surprises and maddening delights. Bradley emphasizes the wide range of emotions, noting that sublime causes fear, maddening joy, awe, and even self-deprecation. The unity of heaven and the sublime involves the will to unify divinity and humanity, which is an aesthetic experience embodied through a sense of unity with nature. It explains that humans feel a desire to transcend reality by uniting with nature and embody it as sublime beauty through imagination. It is an argument that the Eastern and Western sublime is not limited to a specific culture but should be recognized as a universal experience of human existence. In particular, the sublime of totem art starts from a primitive way of thinking, which emphasizes the unknown power of nature rather than human power. The study of the sublime meaning expands to self-reflection and perception of existence through the existing confusion and consciousness of limitation about knowing, and explains that this reflection can lead to coexistence, consideration, and reflection with others. The sublime is also an important category that makes you think about the meaning of the invisible and the unexpressed. It analyzes the concept of sublime in a broad range and suggests the direction of research to expand a theoretical approach and a cultural perspective. It shows that the sublime is an important philosophical and aesthetic issue for deep understanding and coexistence of human existence. Focusing on the sublime, the sublime beauty of the East and the West is compared philosophically.
