Abstract
With the increasing demand for forest leisure&sports, it is essential to manage forest resources sustainably, considering the characteristics of different activity types. To address this, we examined public awareness and preferences related to forest resources utilization for 13 legally recognized forest leisure&sports activities. The survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire via web-based surveys from October 21 to 26, 2022, targeting 500 adults aged 19 and above. We employed statistical analyses, including t-tests, chi-squared tests, and exploratory factor analysis using SPSS 20.0. The forest leisure&sports activities were categorized into linear and nonlinear types. Linear activities, such as mountain marathons and mountain biking centered around forest trails or paths, comprised five categories. Nonlinear activities, including paragliding and rock climbing, which utilize the entire forest area, consisted of eight categories. Analyzing perceptions and preferences for each type, we found that safety (24.0%) and scenic natural landscapes (24.0%) significantly influenced the choice of linear activities among experienced participants. In contrast, nonlinear activity participants emphasized safety (32.3%) and accessibility (17.9%). Linear activities scored higher in interest (3.66 > 3.27) and perceived safety (3.26 > 3.00) compared to nonlinear activities, where interest and safety were relatively lower. Policy recommendations should consider these differences in perception and demands based on the characteristics of forest leisure&sports activities to promote sustainable forest resource management and enhance forest leisure&sports.
