Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the physiological effects of urban forest-walking exercise on health-related blood variables in the elderly. An experiment was conducted from October to December 2022 using a perimeter path and a neighborhood park to test 46 participants in the forest-walking group and 22 participants in the no-treatment group among the elderly aged 65 to 75 years old living in S-gu, Seoul. To investigate the health-promoting effects, blood tests were conducted before and after participation in the program for the forest-walking group and the untreated control group, and the data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0. The results showed no significant difference between the two groups, but there were statistically significant changes from pre to post within the urban forest-walking group. The results showed that, first, the urban forest-walking group had a significant decrease in blood glucose and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDLC). Second, red blood cell(RBC) and hemoglobin(Hb) increased significantly. These results suggest the need to promote urban forest-walking as an exercise to improve the health of the elderly at a time when aging and chronic diseases are becoming an important social issue.
