Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of a forest therapy program based on traditional games on the psychological and physiological changes of elderly people residing in mental nursing facilities. An experimental group (15 people) and a control group (15 people) were selected and a total of 10 sessions of 120 minutes each were conducted once a week from April to June 2025. The experimental group participated in the program and the control group did not receive any treatment. Life satisfaction, activity reviews, salivary cortisol concentration, and C-reactive protein (CRP) concentration were measured twice, pre- and post-test, and analyzed. The study results showed that the experimental group that participated in the program showed positive changes in life satisfaction and the physiological indicator CRP. In particular, a statistically significant difference was confirmed in the analysis of the change (Δ) between groups in the physiological indicator CRP (p<.05), proving that this program is effective in suppressing the worsening of inflammatory indicators and improving physiological health in elderly people residing in facilities. Additionally, the analysis of activity reviews revealed that participants experienced psychological stability and enjoyment through the program and positive emotions through reminiscing about their childhood. Through this, it was confirmed that the forest therapy program based on traditional games is a useful intervention model that promotes psychological well-being and induces improvement in physiological indicators in elderly people residing in mental nursing facilities.
