소아암 생존자의 청년기 적응 경험에 관한 질적 사례연구

본 연구는 소아암 생존자의 청년기 적응 경험을 심층적으로 탐구하기 위해 수행되었다. 2018년 8명의 청년기 소아암 생존자를 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 하였고, 2024년에 후속 인터뷰를 통해 이들의 생애 발달 주기에 따른 적응 과정을 사회문화적 맥락에서 고찰하였다. 질적 사례연구 방법을 활용하여 자료를 분석한 결과, 소아암 생존자의 청년기 적응 경험은 ‘암 진단 이후 변화된 일상’, ‘혼란 속 사회복귀 노력’, ‘느려진 삶의 시간표’, ‘유사하지만 다른 N포 세대의 이유’, ‘바래졌지만 깊어진 성장’, ‘암의 그림자에서 벗어나기’, ‘나만의 속도와 세상의 속도가 이어짐’의 7가지 주제로 범주화되었으며, 이를 아우르는 중심 주제로는 ‘급류를 지나 다시 흐르는 삶’이 도출되었다. 본 연구는 청년기 소아암 생존자의 적응 경험을 심층적으로 이해함으로써, 이들을 위한 사회복지 실천 및 정책적 지원 방안 마련에 기초자료를 제공한다는 점에서 의의를 가진다.
Abstract
This study aimed to explore in-depth the adaptation experiences of young adult survivors of childhood cancer. In 2018, in-depth interviews were conducted with eight young adult survivors, followed by follow-up interviews in 2024, to explore changes in their adaptation process in the context of life stage development and the wider socio-cultural environment. Using a qualitative case study approach, the analysis identified seven key themes: ‘Changed everyday life after cancer diagnosis’, ‘Navigating social reintegration amidst uncertainty’, ‘Slowed life trajectory’, ‘A generation of resignation but in different circumstances’, ‘Faded but deepened growth’, ‘Leaving the shadow of cancer behind’, and ‘Harmonising personal pace with societal expectations’. The central theme that emerged from these findings was ‘A life that flows again after the rapids’. This study aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the experiences of childhood cancer survivors adapting to emerging adulthood, thereby suggesting implications for social welfare practice and policy to support them.
