드라마 <이상한 변호사 우영우>가 보여준 장애인 주변 인물 역할의 중요성

Abstract

A drama <Extraordinary Attorney Woo> achieved a huge success after breaking the jinx in which a drama with a disabled main character could not be successful. Even though the main character, Woo Yeong-Woo is a talented person who graduated with top honors from law school, she is lacking in sociality and emotional expression because of her autism spectrum. Despite many difficulties she went through after entering a large law firm as a rookie attorney, she solves many cases in her own methods based on her strong belief. This study explores the roles of surrounding characters of a disabled person for making the disabled person grow by using the lines of <Extraordinary Attorney Woo> as texts. When meeting with Woo Yeong-Woo for the first time, the senior attorney was conscious of Woo Yeong-Woo’s disability, but supported her to be able to fully show her ability while the man who loved Woo Yeong-Woo protected her because he was just happy to be next to her. Woo Yeong-Woo’s friends and colleagues worked together with her as a team while her parents also protected her as her parents. As others were also on the same side with Woo Yeong-Woo, Woo Yeong-Woo with autism spectrum could enjoy her stable work life as an attorney and also win her love with the man just like a hugging chair. The drama <Extraordinary Attorney Woo> had huge effects on improving the awareness of the disabled. In order to expand this change, it would be necessary to develop creative characters and active discourse of disabled characters, so more various disabled characters could appear in dramas in the future.
