이 논문의 목적은 마쓰모토 가쓰미(松本克己, 2022)의 언어를 둘 러싼 문제들: 언어학·일본어론으로의 초대(박종후 옮김)의 구성 과 내용을 살펴보고 이 책에서 다루고 있는 언어를 바라보는 다양 한 시각에 대해서 고찰하는 것이다. 이 책은 총 4부 15장으로 구 성되어 있는데 필자의 전문적인 학술논문 외에도 일반 독자를 대 상으로 한 언어학과 일본어론 관련 기고문이나 강연 원고도 포함 되어 있다. 방대한 자료를 바탕으로 일본어를 세계의 언어 속에서 넓게 바라보기도 하고 고고학, 민속학, 언어유형지리론, 유전자계 통지리론을 결합하여 깊게 파고들기도 한다. 이로써 이 책은 우리 가 언어 현상의 중심과 주변을 탐구하면서 언어가 가진 보편성뿐 아니라 언어 현상의 변화와 그 모호성에도 관심을 가질 수 있도록 도울 것이다.
Abstract
The objective of this study is to look into the composition and content of Katsumi Matsumoto's (松本克己, 2022) Issues Surrounding Language: An Invitation to Linguistics and Japanese Language Theory(translated by Park Jong-hoo), and to examine the various perspectives on language as covered in this book. The text is composed of four sections and 15 chapters, in total. In addition to his professional academic research papers, the book also includes articles and lecture manuscripts on linguistics and Japanese language for the common reader. Based on a vast amount of data, Matsumoto presents a broad view of Japanese in the context of world languages, while also delving deeply into the subject by integrating concepts from archaeology, folklore, linguistic typology, and genetic phylogenetic theory. As such, by exploring the central and peripheral components of linguistic phenomena, this book will help readers to take interest not only in the universality of language, but also in the changes and ambiguity of such phenomena.
