한국어 문법 교육을 위한 ‘－답시고’의 의미 기능 연구

본 논문에서는 한국어 문법 ‘－답시고’를 대상으로 삼아 그 의미 기능을 교수－학습하기 위한 고려 사항에 대해 논의해 보았다. ‘－답시고’와 관련된 여러 선행 연구에서는 그 의미 기능이선ㆍ후행절의 의미적 관계에 따라서는 ‘목적’과 ‘이유’를, 화자나 주체의 태도와 관련해서는 부정적인 양태 의미를 나타낸다고 보고되어 있다. 그런데 말뭉치 자료의 검토를 통해 실제적인 쓰임을 전제로 한 여러 가지 구체적인 의미 기능을 살펴본 결과, 다른 의미 기능도 있음을 확인할수 있었다. 이에 ‘-답시고’를 교수－학습하기 위한 한 제언으로서, ‘－답시고’의 ‘－ㅂ시－’에 대해 객체 높임의 상대 높임화와, 주체 높임의 화용적 의미 기능이라는 두 가지 관점으로 파악할수 있음을 제안하였다. 그리고 ‘－답시고’의 의미 기능을 ‘관계 의미’와 ‘양태 의미’로 나누었다. 전자는 선ㆍ후행절의 의미적 관계에 따른 것으로 ‘목적, 의도, 의지, 이유, 근거’ 등의 의미로, 후자는 다시 ‘적극적/공격적, 소극적/방어적, 중립적’ 의미로 체계화를 시도해 보았다. 그런데 구체적인 예들에서는 이들 의미 기능들이 복합적으로 나타나는 경우가 많음을 확인하였다. 그리고 말뭉치에 나타나는 예들을 활용하여 ‘－답시고’의 의미 기능을, 그와 교체 가능한 유사 문법들과의 교체 양상을 통해 점검해 보았다. 이때 ‘－답시고’의 의미 기능을 올바로 파악하기 위해서는 유사 문법 항목과의 교체 양상을 바탕으로 문맥이나 상황 등을 고려해야 함을 제언하였다.
Abstract
In this paper, I discussed the things to consider when teaching and learning the semantic function of the Korean grammar ‘－dapsigo’. Several previous studies on ‘－dapsigo’ have reported that its semantic function is to express ‘purpose’ and ‘reason’ depending on the semantic relationship between the preceding and following clauses, and to express a negative modal meaning related to the attitude of the speaker or subject. However, through review of corpus data, I examined several specific semantic functions that assume actual use, and confirmed that there are other semantic functions. As a suggestion for teaching and learning this, I proposed that ‘－psi-(-ㅂ시-)’ in ‘－dapsigo’ can be understood from two perspectives: the hearer honorific from object honorific and the pragmatic meaning function of subject honorific. And the semantic function of ‘－dapsigo’ was divided into ‘relational meaning’ and ‘modal meaning’. The former is based on the semantic relationship between the preceding and following clauses, and is attempted to be systematized into the meanings of ‘purpose, reason, intention, basis’ and the latter is attempted to be systematized into the meanings of ‘aggressive/offensive, passive/defensive, neutral.’ Despite this systematization, I have confirmed that these semantic functions can be interpreted in quite complex ways in specific examples. And, using examples from the corpus, I examined the semantic function of ‘－dapsigo’ through the interchangeability pattern with similar grammars that can be interchanged with it. As a result, I suggested that in order to correctly understand the semantic function of ‘－dapsigo’, the context and situation should be considered based on the interchangeability pattern with similar grammars.
