본 논문은 기본적으로 연민 이가원 선생을 기리는 글이다. 본 연구는 연민 선생의 『국역열하일기』의 특징과 가치를 살펴본 후, 새로운 『열하일기』 번역을 위해 검토할 점들을 다루었다. 우선, 연민 선생이 번역한 『국역열하일기』의 특징과 가치는 다음과 같이 요약된다. 첫째, 『국역열하일기』는 풍부한 이본 비교를 거친 최초의 전문적인 완역이다. 둘째, 『국역열하일기』는 새로운 목차를 제시한 특징이 있다. 셋째, 『국역열하일기』는 교합본 원본텍스트로서의 가치가 매우 크다. 다음은 새로운 『열하일기』 번역을 위한 검토점이다. 첫째, 기본적으로 『국역열하일기』의 텍스트 비교 성과를 계승하되, 좀 더 강도있는 텍스트 비교가 필요하다. 둘째, 과거보다 발전된 공구서를 이용하여 주석을 보강할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 어려운 말이 주석 없이 본문 속에서 자연스럽게 이해될 수 있도록 상세한 번역을 할 필요가 있다. 넷째, 오역에 대해서는 번역의 수정이 필요하다. 다섯째, 번역자의 관점에 따라 번역문이 달라질 수 있는 부분을 점검하여 객관적으로 번역할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
This study is intended not only to cherish memories of our beloved teacher, Ga-won, Yi(李家源), but to review the feature of <Yolha-ilki :熱河日記> translated by Ga-won, Yi. and search directions for the new version of <Yolha-ilki>. First of all, I examined the feature and value of <Yolha-ilki> translated by Ga-won, Yi. and found out the followings. 1. <Yolha-ilki> translated by Ga-won Yi. is the first advanced translation work that is checked with many original versions. 2. Yi's <Yolha-ilki> has a new table of contents. 3. The appendix of <Yolha-ilki> revised by Dr. Yi. is invaluable in the study of <Yolha-ilki>. Secondly, this article has proposals for the new translation of <Yolha-ilki> in honor of Dr. Yi. 1. The new translation of <Yolha-ilki> need to be further minutely compared with many versions. 2. We have to expand footnoots of Yi's <Yolha-ilki> by using a advanced tools for interpretation. 3. I suggest that the existing translation of <Yolha-ilki> be a reader-friendly book for a better understanding. 4. Several slips in the translation must be corrected. 5. I think interpretor has a objective point of view if possible. In conclusion, it is sefely said that <Yolha-ilki> translated by Ga-won Yi. is the first advanced translation in full. but we need not only succeed to its strength but retouch(or correct) its weekness for the new translation of <Yolha-ilki> in honor of Dr. Yi.
