『今昔物語集』の外国語への翻訳は全訳が英語と中国語で出され、部分訳ではドイツ語、フランス語などもある。とりわけ張龍妹氏による中国語訳は本朝部の全訳と略注を施したもので水準が高く、現在、グエン·ティ·オワイン氏によるベトナム語訳と李市埈氏を中心とする韓国語訳が進行中で、これが完成すると東アジアのかつての漢文文化圏における『今昔物語集』翻訳が出そろうことになり、その公刊がおおいに期待される。翻訳を通して本文の解釈上の問題点が浮き彫りにされ、ここでは有名な「羅生門」の話を例に分析した。ついで翻訳論の一環として、絵画や画像、映像によるイメージの翻訳をとりあげ、羅生門をめぐるイメージについて検証した。ついで翻訳文学としての『今昔物語集』の形成について、訳経の現場との類比を検討し、語りの文体といえる「片仮名小書き体」の意義をとらえた。さらには南方熊楠の『今昔物語集』読書メモといえる書き込みに着目、中国の類書や志怪小説との対比を通して、東アジアの視野からモチーフの編み目を読み込む方策を提起し、あわせて、東アジアの共通語としての「説話」を漢文文化の共有圏として定位すべきことを強調した。
Abstract
The translation for the entire text of Konjaku monogatarishu is available in English and Chinese, and the partial translation is available in German and French. Among those translations, the Chinese version translated by Longmei Zhang is a high-quality translation that consists of the entire translation and annotations for the Japanese section of the book. Currently, NGUYEN Thi Oanh and Lee SiJoon are working on the Vietnamese and Korean translations, respectively. Once these have been finished, the Chinese character culture of East Asian version of the book is expected to be established and the official launch of the translation is highly anticipated. Through translation, problems in translating the original text can be identified. As an example, the famous story of「rasyomon」can be analyzed in detail. Furthermore, an example of a translation method, showing a conversational or visual image of the translation, will be discussed. The perception of「rasyomon」will also be analyzed. Also, regarding the formation of Konjaku monogatarishu as translated literature, the process of translation done by 訳経 will be compared to the translated version of Konjaku monogatarishu. The significance of the literary style,「katakana small system-notation, will also be identified. In addition, inspired by Minagata Kumagusu's『Konjaku monogatarishu』reading notes, the text can be compared to similar books in China or Chinese horror stories in order to suggest a way to understand the motif from the East Asian perspective. Also, the importance of establishing fairy tales as literature that should be shared across East Asia will also be highlighted.
