기업은 고조되는 경영환경의 불확실성 속에서 생존과 성장을 위해 치열하게 경쟁한다. 특히 무역분쟁과 기술 패권 경쟁 같은 급격한 변화에 따른 외부 충격은 기업에 심각한 위협, 즉 환경 적대성을 초래한다. 이는 현재 경쟁우위를 유지하는 전략만으로는 기업의 생존과 성장을 담보하기 어렵게 만든다. 본 연구는 기업이 환경 적대성을 극복하고 경쟁우위를 창출하는 과정에서 동적역량과 혁신 생태계의 역할을 규명하고자 하였다. 구체적으로 2019년 일본 수출규제 조치에 대응하여 소부장(소재·부품·장비) 기업이 어떻게 혁신역량을 강화하고 성과를 창출했는지를 분석했다. 선행연구 고찰을 토대로 환경 적대성, 동적역량, 정부 지원 및 고객 협력 기반의 혁신 생태계를 반영한 연구모형을 제시하고, 소부장 기업에 대한 다중사례연구를 수행했다. 사례분석 결과, 소부장 기업은 일본 수출규제 조치 극복을 위해 민첩하게 혁신역량을 재구성했으며, 변화된 정부 지원을 적극 활용하고 고객과의 협력을 사업화 전주기로 확대하는 등 혁신 생태계 내 긴밀한 협력 체계를 강화했다. 이는 전문공급자형 소부장 산업의 혁신 특성이 환경 적대성 하에서 명확하게 작용함을 보여준다.
Abstract
In their pursuit of survival and sustainable growth, firms engage in rigorous competition within an ever-evolving and uncertain environment. External shocks stemming from abrupt changes, such as trade conflicts and geopolitics of technology, present severe threats to firms, namely environmental hostility. This makes it challenging for firms to ensure their viability solely through strategies oriented towards preserving existing competitive advantages. This study examined the role of dynamic capabilities (DC) and innovation ecosystems in enabling firms to mitigate environmental hostility and develop competitive advantages. Specifically, it analyzed how materials-components-equipment (MCE) firms leveraged their innovation capabilities and generated performance, in response to Japan’s export restrictions in 2019. Based on the critical review of the literature, we developed a research model that integrates environmental hostility, DC, innovation ecosystem characterized by government support and customer co-creation. We then conducted a multiple case study on MCE firms. The results show that, to mitigate Japan’s export restrictions, MCE firms agilely reconfigured their innovation capabilities. Furthermore, they actively leveraged altered government support. They also strengthened cooperative relationships within the innovation ecosystem by expanding the scope of collaboration with customers across the entire commercialization lifecycle. This confirmed the distinct manifestation of the innovation characteristics of the MCE industry, as specialised suppliers, under environmental hostility.
