Abstract
This study examines the background of the crime prevention context in which local police officers are assigned various additional tasks beyond the basic tasks of patrolling and responding to emergency calls under the name of directive policy, and investigates the motivations of police officers that influence their willingness to perform these additional tasks, focusing on the theory of self-legitimation. To this end, we conducted a focused group interview (FGI) with field police officers from Ansandanwon Police Station of Gyeonggi-nambu Police Agency, taking into account the high demands of policing, and found that organisational procedural justice, policy effectiveness, job satisfaction, and relationship with citizens are important, and that self-legitimacy can lead to the performance of additional tasks for citizens in addition to basic duties. However, we also found that lack of communication or excessive measures can have negative effects. As a result, this paper concludes that successful implementation of policing policies can be associated with a bottom-up approach based on ensuring procedural justice within the organisation that respects the discretion and realism of local police officers who are assigned the role of enforcement, and the importance of prior communication between top management and the field based on a clear prediction of the effectiveness of assigning additional tasks to local police officers beyond their basic duties.
