Abstract
Researchers’ interest in positive psychology has expanded since its emergence about in 2000. However, few institutions offer in-depth and systematic curriculum for this field of study in South Korea. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate positive psychology degree programs in the graduate school in order to establish an education and training program for positive psychology experts in Korea. Specifically, the coursework programs of one university in Korea and eight foreign universities were analyzed. The findings are as follows. There were 12 master’s and three doctoral degree programs, including interdisciplinary collaboration with developmental psychology, organizational psychology, health psychology, and coaching psychology. The programs mainly offered online courses and blended/hybrid courses. Courses were divided into seven categories: foundations of positive psychology, positive organizational psychology theories, positive developmental psychology theories, positive psychology program development and evaluation, positive psychology intervention, positive psychology practicum, and statistics and research methodologies. Each course was designed to help students to learn positive personal traits and organizational features such as positive emotions, well-being, strength, virtues, and leadership, and to provide training in positive psychology principles and practices. Field practicum was an integral part of all the program. By analyzing positive psychology curriculum, it is likely to extend the convergence of positive psychology with a variety of fields of study, including counseling psychology, rehabilitation psychology, and education.
