Abstract
To ensure fair comparisons of career adaptability across gender and grade levels, examining whether the scale functions equivalently across groups is essential. This study tested the measurement invariance of the Career Adapt-Ability Scale for upper elementary school students in Korea. The participants were 1,285 fifth- and sixth-grade students from elementary schools in Seoul, recruited through two rounds of sampling. The study employed the Career Adapt-Ability Scale + Cooperation (CAAS+C), which incorporates cooperation as an additional factor and has been validated for use with Korean upper elementary students. A multi-group confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to sequentially test configural, metric, scalar, and residual invariance across gender and grade. Subsequent analyses compared latent means between groups. First, the results supported configural, metric, scalar, and residual invariance across gender. Second, the same four levels of measurement invariance were also confirmed between fifth- and sixth-grade students. Third, the latent mean comparison revealed significant gender differences in control, cooperative consideration, and cooperative contribution, whereas no significant differences were observed between grades. These findings indicate that the scale demonstrates equivalent factor structures, factor loadings, item intercepts, and error variances across gender and grade levels. Therefore, total and subscale scores on the Career Adapt-Ability Scale for upper elementary students can be interpreted consistently and compared fairly across gender and grade groups.
