이 글은 한국광복군 출신 민영구가 해방 이후 대한민국 해군에서 수행한 활동과 역할을 정리한 것이다. 1948년 국내로 환국하여 해군에입대하게 되는 과정부터 한국의 첫 원양어선인 지남호 인수단에서의 활동, 6·25전쟁에 참전하여 수행한 활동과 역할, 그리고 해군사관학교 교장으로서의 활동 등을 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 민영구가 해군에서 펼친 활동의 실상을 면밀히 파악하고자 하였다. 우선 민영구가 해군에서 펼친 활동을 파악할 수 있는 자료들을 조사· 분석하였다. 회고록·해군사관학교 자료집·해군역사기록관리단 자료집·6·25전쟁사 자료집 등을 참고하였다. 이들 자료에는 민영구의 활동을증명해 줄 다양한 정보들이 담겨 있다. 자료를 통해 드러나지 않는 정보와 사실은 미국에 거주하는 아들과의 인터뷰를 통해 보완하였다. 그 결과해방 이후 민영구가 해군에서 수행한 활동과 역할을 구체적으로 파악할수 있었다. 독립운동가 민영구의 해방 이후 활동이 가지는 특별함이 있다. 그것은광복군 출신으로는 유일하게 해군에 참여했다는 점이다. 민영구는 해군에서 활동하며 부산경비부사령관·해군본부 함정국장·작전참모부장·서해전대 사령·주미대사관 해군무관·해군사관학교 교장 등을 지냈다. 광복군에서 국군으로 이어지는 정통성을 보여주는 인물, 바로 이점이 민영구에대한 특별함을 더한다고 할 수 있다. 민영구는 광복군에서 국군으로 이어지는 정통성을 보여주는 대표적인인물이다. 민영구와 같은 인물들에 대한 조사와 연구는 필수적이다. 이것이 국군의 인적(人的) 정통성을 입증하는 근거가 되기 때문이다. 이를 통해 광복군과 오늘날 국군의 관계가 뚜렷하게 정립되기를 기대해 본다.
Abstract
This article summarizes the activities and roles that Min Young-gu, a former member of the Korean Restoration Army, performed in the Korean Navy after liberation. From the process of returning to Korea in 1948 and joining the Navy, the activities of the Jinamho, Korea's first deep-sea fishing boat, the activities and roles performed in the Korean War, and the activities as the principal of the Naval Academy were examined. Through this, we tried to closely grasp the reality of Min Young-gu's activities in the Navy. First of all, data that can grasp Min Young-gu's activities in the Navy were investigated and analyzed. Memoirs, Naval Academy archives, Naval History Records Management Group archives, and Korean War history archives were referenced. These data contain a variety of information to prove Min Young-gu's activities. Information and facts that are not revealed through the data were supplemented through interviews with surviving sons. As a result, it was possible to understand in detail the activities and roles that Min Young-gu played in the Navy after liberation. There is a special feature of independence activist Min Young-gu's activities after liberation. It is the only member of the Korean Restoration Army who participated in the Navy. Min Young-gu was active in the Navy and served as the commander of the Busan Security Department, the ship director of the Navy Headquarters, the chief of operational staff, the command of the West Sea Battle Corps, the naval officer of the Embassy of the United States, and the principal of the Naval Academy. It can be said that this is a person who shows legitimacy from the Korean Restoration Army to the Korean Armed Forces, adding to the specialness of Min young-gu.
