이 글은 중국 대륙에서 선장과 군인으로 활동하며 독립운동을 전개했던민영구의 활동상과 역할을 정리한 것이다. 중국으로 망명하여 상선회사에서 활동하게 되는 과정부터 대한민국 임시정부에서 활동하며 펼쳤던 한국광복진선청년공작대와 한국광복군 활동 그리고 주화대표단 활동에 이르기까지의 과정을 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 민영구가 중국에서 펼친 독립운동의실상을 면밀히 파악하고자 하였다. 우선 독립운동가의 자제였던 민영구의 가계를 파악할 수 있는 족보를비롯하여 회고록·전기류·구술자료집·대한민국 임시정부 관련 자료집·해방이후 한인의 귀환 관련 자료집 등을 조사·분석하였다. 이들 자료에는 민영구의 활동상을 증명해주는 다양한 정보들이 담겨 있다. 자료를 통해 드러나지 않는 정보와 사실은 생존해 계신 아들과 친인척과의 인터뷰를 통해보완하였다. 그 결과 민영구가 중국에서 전개했던 독립운동의 실상을 구체적으로 파악할 수 있었다. 민영구는 항해사·선장으로 활동하며 독립운동에 참여했던 독특한 경력을 가진 인물이다. 중일전쟁 때에는 직접 선단을 이끌고 ‘양자강 봉쇄작전’ 참전하여 일본군을 저지하였고, 또 독립운동가 가운데 항해사·선장 출신으로 광복군에서 활동했던 유일한 인물이기도 하다. 그런 점에서 한국독립운동사에서 민영구가 갖고 있는 의미는 특별하다고 할 수 있다. 1919년 중국으로 망명한 이래 1948년 국내로 환국할 때까지 29년여의세월 동안, 민영구는 항해사와 선장·한국광복진선청년공작대·광복군·주화대표단에서 활동하였다. 선장과 군인으로 활동하며 독립운동에 헌신했던대표적인 인물이라 할 수 있다.
Abstract
This article summarizes the activities and roles of Min Young-gu, who worked as a captain and soldier in continental China and launched the independence movement. From defecting to China and working in a ship company, to the activities of the Korea Liberation Front Youths Corps and the Korean Independence Army, and the activities of the Korean delegation in China, we looked at the process. Through this, we tried to closely grasp the reality of Min Young-gu’s independence movement in China. First of all, we investigated and analyzed genealogy that could identify the households of Min Young-gu, who were the children of independence activists, memoirs, oral data collections, data collections related to the provisional government of the Republic of Korea, and data collections related to the return of Koreans after liberation. These data contain a variety of information that proves Min Young-gu’s activities. Information and facts not revealed through data were supplemented through interviews with surviving sons and relatives. As a result, it was possible to grasp the reality of the independence movement that Min Young-gu developed in China in detail. Min Young-gu is a person with a unique career who participated in the independence movement while working as a navigator and captain. During the Sino-Japanese War, he directly led the fleet to the “Operation to Block the Yangtze River” to stop the Japanese military, and he was the only independence activist who was a sailor and captain and was active in the Korean Independence Army. In this regard, it can be said that the meaning of Min Young-gu in the history of the Korean independence movement is special. For more than 29 years, from his exile to China in 1919 to his return to Korea in 1948, Min Young-gu served as a navigator and captain, the Korea Liberation Front Youths Corps, Korean Independence Army, and the Korean delegation in China. It can be said that he was a representative person who devoted himself to the independence movement while working as a captain and a soldier.
