이 논문은 영조英祖, 재위 1724~1776 어제御製 속 창의궁彰義宮 관련 기록을 대상으로 영조의 마음속에 항상 자리했던 창의궁이라는 공간을 영조가 어떻게 인식하고 문학적으로 형상화했으며, 이 공간의 의미는 무엇인지 고찰한 것이다. 창의궁은 숙종肅宗, 재위 1674~1720이 연잉군延礽君을 위해 특별히 마련해 준 사저私邸로 숙종은 ‘양성헌養性軒’이라는 헌명軒名과 어제시御製詩를 하사해주었다. 영조는 별천지 같은 창의궁에서 ‘망중한忙中閑’의 정취를 만끽하였고, 어머니 숙빈 최씨淑嬪崔氏. 1670~1718를 모시고 지냈으며, 그녀의 임종을 지켜보기도 했다. 또 이곳에서 화억옹주和憶翁主, 1717~1718 및 효장세자孝章世子, 1719~1728의 탄생과 요절을 겪기도 했다. 창의궁 관련 시문에서 영조는 등극 이전부터 말년까지 이곳에 자주 행차하면서 각별한 애정과사심을 감추지 않았다. 특히 말년에는 창의궁을 ‘구저舊邸’ 또는 ‘잠저潛邸’라 부르면서 가족 추억과 추모의 공간으로 인식하였다. 또 노년의 불편하고 불만스러운 현실로부터 벗어나 심신의 안정을 도모하는 안식처이기도 하였다. 이처럼 창의궁은 영조의 부모 및 자식들과의 추억이 자리한 사적 공간이자 노년의 유일한 안식처로써 궐내 다른 공간과 대비해 특별한 의미를 가진다.
Abstract
This paper examines how King Yeongjo(英祖) recognized the space known as Changuigung House(彰義宮), which was always in his mind, with the focus on records related to Changuigung House in the works written by King Yeongjo(英祖御製). Changuigung House is a private residence(私邸) specially prepared by King Sukjong(肅宗) for Prince Yeonying(延礽君), which he named “Yangseongheon”(養性軒) and “King's Poetry”(御製詩). He enjoyed much leisure time there, as if he were in another world, served his mother, the concubine Sukbin(淑嬪崔氏), and was present at her death there. He also lived through the birth and death of both Princess Hwaeok(和憶翁主) and Prince Hyojang(孝章世子) there. In King Yeongjo ’s writings about Changuigung House, he did not hide his special affection and personal interest for the place, and visited it frequently from the time before he ascended to the throne to the end of his life. In particular, in his later years, Changuigung House was called the “Old House”(舊邸) or the “Prince Period House”(潛邸), and it was recognized as a space of family memories and memorials. It was also a place of rest and relaxation where he could enjoy a degree of mental and physical stability amid the uncomfortable and dissatisfying reality of old age. As such, Changuigung House is both a private space and a repository of memories of King Yeongjo's parents and children. As the only resting place in his old age, it has a special meaning compared to other spaces in the palace.
