이 연구는 McEnery & Brezina(2022)의 Fundamental Principles of Corpus Linguistics에서 논의된 말뭉치언어학의 기본 원리를 소개함으로써, 인공지능 시대에 말뭉치언어학이 가지는 과학적 탐구 방법론으로서의 의의를 논의한다. 이를 통해 반복과 재현의 구분, 귀납 추론의 한계, 현실과의 ‘준접촉’의 개념을 통해, 거대언어모델 시대에 말뭉치언어학의 과학적 탐구 원리가 가지는 이론적 차별성과 확장 가능성을 모색하고자 한다. 이 연구는 다음과 같이 구성된다. 2장에서는 각각 저서의 집필 의도와 철학적 기반(2.1)과 총 48개의 말뭉치언어학의 원리와 책의 구조(2.2)를 소개한다. 3장에서는 이 책의 핵심 논의 사항을 두 가지로 구분하여 소개하기로 하는데, 과학으로서의 말뭉치언어학의 정체성과 반증가능성, 재현가능성의 원리가 그것이다. 결론에서는 최근 말뭉치언어학계에서 논의되는 AI 도구 활용의 동향과 쟁점을 소개함으로써 재현성과 반증가능성이 가지는 사회과학적 의의와 말뭉치 연구의 발전 방향을 논의하기로 한다.
Abstract
This study introduces the fundamental principles of corpus linguistics discussed in McEnery & Brezina(2022) and explores the significance of corpus linguistics as a scientific methodology in the age of artificial intelligence. By examining the distinction between repetition and replication, the limits of inductive reasoning, and the concept of “quasi-contact” with reality, the study discusses how the principle of falsifiability contributes to the theoretical development and expansion of corpus linguistics in the era of large language models. The paper is structured as follows. Chapter 2 outlines the authors’ philosophical orientation (2.1) and presents the overall structure and 48 principles of corpus linguistics (2.2). Chapter 3 focuses on two core concepts of the book—namely, the identity of corpus linguistics as a science and the principles of falsifiability and replicability. The conclusion addresses current trends and debates surrounding the use of AI tools in corpus-based research, emphasizing the broader social-scientific implications of reproducibility and falsifiability for the future of corpus studies.
