이 서평논문은 인공지능 시대에 다시 읽는 어휘론과 말뭉치언어학의 의의에 대해 논의한다. 특히 Halliday 외(2004)를 중심으로 어휘론과 말뭉치언어학의 핵심 개념을 재조명하며, 인공지능이 언어 처리에서 차지하는 역할이 커져가는 상황 속에서도 여전히 유효한 인간 언어의 본질적 탐구 방향을 제시한다. 본 논문은 의미의 사회적 형성과 인간 의도에 주목하면서, 인공지능이 모방할 수 없는 인간 고유의 언어 특성을 강조한다. 또한, 신어와 저빈도어에 대한 연구가 왜 중요한지 설명하고, 인공지능이 산출한 자연어와 인간 언어의 대조 연구의 필요성을 제안한다. 이를 통해, 인공지능 시대의 언어학이 나아가야 할 새로운 연구 과제를 제시한다.
Abstract
This paper discusses the significance of lexicology and corpus linguistics in the age of artificial intelligence, focusing on the work of Halliday et al. (2004). By revisiting key concepts of lexicology and corpus linguistics, it argues for the continued relevance of exploring the fundamental aspects of human language, even as AI plays an increasingly dominant role in language processing. The paper highlights the social construction of meaning and human intentionality, emphasizing language traits unique to humans that AI cannot replicate. Additionally, it underscores the importance of studying neologisms and low-frequency words and suggests the necessity of contrastive studies between AI-generated natural language and human language. This paper presents new research directions for linguistics in the AI era.
