This article is a review for 『Corpus Linguistics: Investigating Language Structure and Use』, written by Douglas Biber, Susan Conrad, Randi Reppen in 1998. This book consists of four parts, which address eight research questions about how exploring corpora can help us better understand language use. This book presents explicit discussions of the methodological issues and techniques used in corpus-based research, with a primary emphasis on the research of language use. In addition this book shows how empirical investigations of corpora can shed new light on previously intractable research questions in linguistics at that time. When it comes to methodological framework and the range of research topics, the corpus studies in Korean have made considerable progress for the last few decades. Nevertheless, this article reviewed Biber et al.(1998), published 20years ago. This is an attempt to contemplate the interest, methodology, and significance of early corpus-based research through Biber et al.(1998), considered a classic of corpus linguistics.
