Abstract
One of the most important qualifications for becoming a royal prince in the Ming Dynasty or a prince in the Joseon Dynasty was bloodline. In most cases, once a prince was recognized as the heir apparent and appointed as the prince, the court would begin to educate him, and this early education was intended to develop his morals, leadership, and state management skills to prepare him for his future role as head of state, which was extremely important because the future and destiny of the country was at stake. For young princes before they entered educational institutions, picture books with brief explanatory texts were created, such as Zheng Ji’s Shenggongtu and Huo Tao&Zhou Shouyi’s Shenggongtu. Zheng Ji’s book contained over a hundred colorful illustrations of the stories of successive princes, and Huo Tao’s book contained thirteen stories, but the books they painstakingly created had to be discarded for political reasons. The Yangjeongsunggukdo, which was maid During the King Yeongjo of Joseon, is said to have taken its contents from the books of Huo Tao and from a painting called Yangzheontu, which contains a 10-panel painting of the Yangzheongtujie by Jiao Hong. This paper will examine why Zheng ji and Huo Tao created their books, what they contained, and why they were not authorized by the emperor, and infer the contents of the Yangjeongseonggukdo in Joseon. In addition, through the failures of the crown prince who used these books, we will emphasize the fact that the content of the textbooks is important, but success can only be achieved if the learner applies the content to their lives.
