Abstract
The women in Matthew's genealogy is not just narrative characters to prove Jesus as the messiah from the lineage of David; but those women must be the author's narrative strategy to reveal Matthew's theological discourse and its meaning, while corresponding to the Canaanite woman. The role of the women in Genealogy and their theological significance are clearly embodied in the narrative of the Canaanite woman. Through this narrative strategy, the Gospel of Matthew represents its theological discourse that the divine providence is not only hindered by a socio-religious value system or traditions, but it also breaks down multiple boundaries of ethnicity, religion, gender, class; and it rather expands its boundaries to the whole world. This article investigates the narrative correlation between the women in Matthew's genealogy and the Canaanite woman, while examining the literary strategic function and its theological meaning.
