Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the response of oxygen consumption (VO2 ml/kg/min) and hormones related growth to acute exercise using Toyatti in child(six boys and four girls). Ten 4 to 5 years (60.60±6.70 months) old child exercised 20 min using Toyatti at the level of 53∼84% VO2max. We measured VO2 (ml/kg/min) during the exercise to calculate energy expenditure (kcal/kg/min) during exercise. Venous blood samples were obtained before, 5min after exercise for the measurement of serum GH (growth hormone), IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor-1), cortisol (COR), thyroxine (T4), insulin (INS), and IGFBP-3 (Insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3). As results, average heart rates (HRs), %VO2max, %HRmax, and energy expenditure during 20min exercise using Toyatti were 174.12±16.52 bpm, 67.33±10.92%, 80.87%, and 0.1774 kcal/kg/min respectively. Seconds, Acute exercise did not affect significantly serum IGFBP-3, IGF-1/IGFBP-3 ratio, COR and T4 but GH (↑378.37%, 6.01±2.97 vs 22.74±4.59 ng/ml, p=.008) and IGF-1 (↑108.46%, 152.44±9.55 vs 165.33±11.76 ng/ml, p=.036) were significantly increased after exercise. Third, the age was positively correlated with body weight(r= 0.674, p= .032), % body fat (r= 0.808, p= .005), whereas the growth in height was not significantly correlated with the age (r= 0.582, p= .077) but the bone age (r= 0.648, p= .043). In addition, the basal and post-exercise IGF-1 levels were positively correlated with the basal insulin concentrations (r= .746, p= .021; r= .906, p= .001, respectively). In additioin, average VO2 ml/kg/min during exercise was positively correlated with GH concentration (r= 0.674, p= .047), whereas IGF-1 concentration was negatively correlated with average HR (r= -0.734, p= .024), respectively. In conclusion, 20min exercise at the level of 53 to 84% VO2max using Toyatti might significantly increase in the concentration of GH and IGF-1, and significantly decrease in insulin concentration.
