Abstract

This paper tries to examine the main character, ‘I’, who is obsessed over Zori Sandals for Women in Kim Mun-Jip`s Zori Sandals for Women and My Youth. Even if the writer, Kim Mun-Jip was a person of Chosun Dynasty, he was an outsider in Chosun. Also, he was better at Japanese than Korean as the mother tongue thanks to learning in Japan, however, he didn't achieve recognition in Japan because he came from Chosun. It is likely that his some works reveal his own loneliness as abnormal obsession symptoms and materials for writing. Losing his mother around the hundredth day after birth, he might suffer from hunger for maternal love, and then this seems to lead to abnormal sexuality such as Fetishism and nocturnal enuresis, following unnatural and strange nonideal behavior like stealing and collecting Zori sandals for women. After leaving his own space and world and entering downtown, on the train bound for Tokyo as a routine space wearing high-heels, 'I' mutters there are private lives of hundreds of people, secrets, pain and romantic parts in the very place. Ironically, for 'I', the roofs of the railroad excite nostalgia, reminding him of the hometown market beyond the sea. 'I' as a figure seems to be a collapsed and frustrated man, being integrated with neither Yong Hee representing Chosun nor his second lover hinting Japan.
