Abstract

This study proposes a Gyeongnam-type e-sports and tourism convergence model that connects the expanding operations of the Gyeongnam E-sports Arena with Jinju's traditional cultural tourism resources. The central issue is not underutilization per se, but the conversion of diverse operational activities into measurable tourism outcomes. Public reporting documents student competitions and a KEL Superweek, along with plans for an event targeting middle-aged and older adults in 2025. In 2026, community-oriented e-sports programs and RISE-linked talent-development cooperation became more concrete. The remaining challenge is to convert these operational experiences into measurable arena utilization, longer stays, local spending, and place-brand outcomes. This exploratory, theory-building study combines literature review, case analysis, and SWOT analysis without collecting primary survey data. It integrates sports tourism, co-branding, experience economy, and the VAB model into an extended path: local culture-e-sports co-branding → 4E experience quality → perceived tourism value → destination and event attitudes measured separately → tourism behavior, specifying four propositions (P1-P4) and one boundary condition (BC1). Synthesis of the Busan and Katowice cases with related literature identifies long-term event-brand consistency, inter-organizational cooperation, and integration with distinctive local assets as core strategic conditions. The Jinju process is interpreted as infrastructure establishment in 2024, operational diversification in 2025, and expansion of community, workforce-development, and culture-tourism linkages in 2026. The study then proposes phased strategies from 2027 onward and a performance framework that separates operational outputs from outcome indicators such as facility utilization, tourist stays, spending, and economic effects.
