『백일법문』에 나타난 퇴옹 성철의 제6의식 고찰 - 감산의 『팔식규구통설』·지욱의 『팔식규구직해』와의 비교를 중심으로 -

이 글은 『백일법문』에 나타난 성철(性徹, 1912~1993)의 팔식설 중에서 제6의식을 중심으로 살펴본 것이다. 성철은 『백일법문』에서 현장의 『팔식규구(八識規矩)』에 대한 주석인 감산의 『팔식규구통설(八識規矩通說)』을 위주로 팔식에 대해 법문한다. 그래서 『백일법문』의 팔식설을 고찰하려면 반드시 『팔식규구통설』과의 비교를 통해 살펴볼 수밖에 없다. 『팔식규구통설』 육식송(제6의식)의 제1게송에서는 제6의식의 대상(境), 인식수단(量), 성품(性), 감수작용(五受) 및 함께 작용하는 51개의 심소에 대해 주석한다. 제2게송에서는 제6의식이 나머지 7가지 식보다 업력의 뛰어남에 대해 주석한다. 그리고 무루 부분인 제3게송에서는 제6의식이 전변하여 묘찰관지를 이루는 지혜에 대해 주석한다. 이에 이 글에서는 제6의식에 대한 성철의 『백일법문』과 감산의 『팔식규구통설』을 비교하여 고찰하였다. 특히 논자는 성철의 제6의식에 관한법문이 감산의 『팔식규구통설』을 바탕으로 이루어졌다는 것을 논증하였다. 더불어 논자가 필요하다고 생각하는 부분을 발췌하여, 지욱의 『팔식규구직해』 등의 여러 주석서의 입장과도 비교하여 검토하였다.
Abstract
This paper examines Seong-Cheol′s The Eight- Consciousness Theory (八識 說), i.e., The sixth consciousnessas expressed in Baegilbeopmun (百日法門). However, due to the constraints of the space, I will postpone The seventh mano- vijñāna and The eighth ālaya-vijñāna for the next opportunity, focusing on The sixth consciousness. Sung-Chul is based on Hanshan′s Bashiguijutongshuo (八識規矩通說), a commentary on Bashiguiju (八識規矩) in the Baegilbeopmun. Therefore, if we want to examine Baegilbeopmun′s The Eight-Consciousness Theory, we must compare it with Bashiuijutongshuo. The Sixth Consciousness-Verse, the first verse, then commented on viṣaya (境), pramāṇa (量), bhāva (性), and caitta (心所) working together in The sixth consciousness. In the second verse, The sixth consciousness commentes on karma, which is superior to the other seven vijñāna. And in the anāsrava (無漏) part, the third verse, The sixth consciousness is commented on changing to Myogwanchalji (妙觀察智). So I′m going to take a look at The sixth consciousness by comparing Sung-Cheol′s Baegilbeopmun and Hanshan′s Bashiuijutongshuo. In particular, I examined in detail that Sung-Cheol′s teachings on The sixth consciousness were based on Hanshan′s Bashiuijutongshuo. In addition, I will take excerpts from what I think is necessary, and compare them with the positions of Ouyizhixu′ s Bashiguijuzhijie (八識規矩直解) and other commentaries.
