스페인의 대외경제관계를 설명하는 변수중 '중남미 지역의 정치 및 경제 변화'라는 변수의 유용성은 스페인 국가연구의 매우 독특한 측면이다. 본 연구는중남미지역의 국제적 위상, 거시경제적 상황, 스페인의 국내경제 상황, 국제경제 상황 등이 스페인-중남미 관계를 설명하는 변수로서 적합한가를 점검해본다. 본 연구로부터 도출되는 시사점은 스페인이 중남미지역을 정책도구로 삼은삼각협력 구상은 그 성패를 떠나서 스페인의 대외정책을 이해하는데 중요한 틀을 제공한다. 둘째, 중남미지역의 경제적 중요성의 등락 변화는 스페인이 이 지역에 대해 갖는 가치의 변화를 의미한다. 셋째, 스페인의 국내 경제상황이 악화될수록 스페인 기업들은 해외에서의 수익으로 이를 보전하기 위해 특히 중남미지역 진출을 강화할 것이다. 넷째, 선진권 경제가 침체를 겪을수록 스페인은 신흥경제권중의 하나인 중남미지역에 대한 의존을 높이는 선택을 하게 만든다는것이다.
Abstract
Among other variables, ‘Latin America's political and economic change’may work as a useful variable to affect Spain's international relations, which is a unique feature of the studies of Spain. This paper attempts to explore those factors such as Latin America's international prestige and macroeconomic situation, Spain's economic situation, and international situation to possibly affect Spain's strategy toward Latin America. From this analysis one can learn that the concept of Spain's triangulation strategy to make Latin America as one of its policy tools serves to help understand its foreign policy; that Latin America's economic ups and downs go along with the change of the priority Spain may put to the region; that Spaniard firms may try to compensate for their domestic loss by making stronger inroads into Latin American markets; and that recession in industrialized countries may make Spain more dependent on the region as an emerging market. ?
