Abstract

In this study, the carbon storage effect by construction type was analyzed for riparian greenspaces 7 to 17 years after construction in the purchased land along the Gyeongan-cheon basin. There were a total of 320 riparian greenspaces (896,088m2) in the study area. The total carbon storage of riparian greenspaces was 388.8tons, and the average amount of carbon storage per unit area was 4.5±0.3t/ha. The total carbon storage of forest type, meadow type, forest-meadow type, and wetlands type was 287.8tons, 51.3tons, 27.0tons, and 22.7tons, respectively, and the proportion of forest type was the highest with 74%. The average carbon storage per unit area was 6.3±0.5t/ha, 3.6±0.3t/ha, 3.7±0.4t/ha, and 1.6±0.4t/ha, respectively, with the forest type being the highest and the wetland type the lowest. The average annual carbon storage was 35.3±8.1ton/yr, and the effect of carbon storage per unit area was 4.6±0.5t/ha/yr on average. And the average annual carbon storage of forest type, meadow type, forest-meadow type, and wetlands type was 26.2ton/yr, 4.7ton/yr, 2.5ton/yr, and 2.1ton/yr, respectively. The riparian greenspaces of the study area store carbon equivalent to the use of about 682kL of gasoline. If the amount of carbon storage per unit area is applied to the entire riparian greenspaces created in the four major rivers, about 11,700tons of carbon storage is effective. In addition to plants in riparian greenspaces, it can be seen that the amount of carbon storage that takes into account the carbon storage of soil is larger, and the effect of carbon absorption will further increase according to the increase in composition of riparian greenspaces, construction type, and the growth degree of trees. This study is meaningful in that it quantifies the effects of growth and carbon storage by construction type for vast riparian greenspaces 7 to 17 years after construction and establishes basic data. In the future, it is expected that it can be used for efficient composition as a carbon sink by construction type, establishment of management plans, and deduction of expected effects.
