19세기 전반 동아시아 담론과 지식망― 중국총보(Chinese Repository)를 중심으로

Abstract

The 19th century is period which was been making presentation of the Eastern Asia by Europeans. Many Europeans took active part in missionary work, trade work, diplomacy work etc. They each stayed in Canton, Bombay, Singapore, Malacca, Batavia, Macao etc. But They were making network of human resources and information. Chinese Repository was situated in the center of them, which was published during 1832-1851 at Canton by a America missionary, E. C. Bridgman(1801-1861). This magazine contributed to formation of modern image and of China and Eastern Asia and Orientalism in the Europe and United state. This article will study that network of human resources and information and the Characters which were depicted by them, also extract problems from them.
