초록
In this study, using of “Ka(香),” a Chinese letter, in Manyoshu, is examined. “Ka” has many example and usages in Waka. At first, there is an example of Wago ‘Ka’ as meaning of scent, ‘Ka’ is used. In this situation, the letter ‘Ka’ is used not only as the meaning scent also used with a sound of ‘ka.’ Therefore, ‘Ka’ brings two functions of the sound and meaning at the same time. It could be assumed that when the Chinese letter ‘Ka’ is introduced in Japan at the first time, ‘Ka’ in Japanese was related with both its sound and meaning. As a result, when Wago ‘Ka’ is written, ‘香’ is used generally.
