As stated, existing studies that focused on just the perspective of cultural theory like the patterns of Japanese culture or ethical virtues can’t explain the meaning of The Chrysanthemum and the Sword : Patterns of Japanese Culture. And on this stance, I dismantled and reorganized the existing discourse of The Chrysanthemum and the Sword : Patterns of Japanese Culture as a policy report during the war focusing on the purpose. To achieve this, I had to investigate the anti-cultural relativism of The Chrysanthemum and the Sword and determine the meanings of The Chrysanthemum and the Sword as a main title and Patterns of Japanese Culture as a subtitle. As a result, The Chrysanthemum and the Sword : Patterns of Japanese Culture is a masterwork of discourses on japanese culture as a classic, and concurrently it is the first anthropology work that made a crucial contribution on the US’s global strategy after the second world war opening the first scene of area studies.
