〈逆接〉を表す「V(-タ)トコロデ」と「V(-タ)トコロガ」 - 順接用法とのかかわりからみた比較 -

Abstract

Originally, the noun tokoro expresses place or location and is semantically abstracted in temporal meaning. Also, it is used as a compound conjunctive particle with a particle. In this paper, we focused on “V(-ta)tokorode” and “V(-ta)tokoroga” as a compound conjunctive particle and considered about differences between them. First, there are differences in Reality(the relation between the contents expressed by the language in the sentence and the fact outside the language), “V(-ta) tokorode” mainly requires Non-actual Reality, whereas “V(-ta)tokoroga” is mainly Actual Reality. Next, syntactically, the main clauses are common in having modal constraints. but the former often co-occurs with conjectural and ironical expression, whereas the latter does not co-occur. Also, the former is likely to co-occur with negative expressions. Semantically, there are differeces in the relations between the events of the subordinate clause and the main clause, and the nuances expressed thereby differ. The above differences seem to be deeply related to the derivation path to the concessive meaning.
