Abstract
In this article, we deal with tense and aspect of ad-nominal clauses which express non-simultaneity taxis in Korean and Japanese. Our analysis is based on the notions of temporal localization, taxis, unbounded, tense, aspect, and verb types. The main outcomes are condensed into the following points. First of all, ad-nominal clauses which express non-simultaneity is a compound sentence that expresses a sequent event in time, as a semantic feature, regardless of the conditional and the causal relation. Next, as a grammatical feature, the first point is that the subordinate clause must contain a predicate with a temporal localization and motion verb. Also it must be basically a relative tense usage and perfective aspect form. The third point is that it can use time nouns which is different from the main clause. The fourth point is that there are ad-nominal clauses about time such as <전/후, 뒤, 다음＞and it must be grammatically bounded. Finally, from a contrasting perspective of Korean and Japanese, the differences between the two languages are as follows: 1) Differences in non-past forms (‘할(hal)/하는(hanun)’ are used for Korean while ‘スル(suru)’ is used for Japanese), 2) Japanese ‘前/まで’ is subordinated to the conjunctive form, while Korean ‘전/까지’ is connected to the noun form ending, 3) Korean past experience mood ‘던(ten)’ is difficult to be used in non-simultaneity taxis. However, there are some points that have not been discussed in detail, such as temporal localization and taxis.
