초록

he purpose of this study is to compare the types and characteristics of Korean and Indonesian swear words. The types of swear words that appear in both languages appear in word forms, compound word forms, phrase structure forms, and clause forms. The types of swear words in Korean are different from those in Indonesian, and the numbers are numerous. The basic types of Korean swear words are divided into those that mostly refer to people and those that are not. Human swear words are mostly related to identity such as ‘사기꾼’, personality such as ‘뻥쟁이’, or behavior-oriented and physical characteristics such as ‘멍청이’ and ‘바보’. There are other forms of verbal abuse such as ‘지랄하다’, sexual abuse such as ‘좇나게‘, and emotional abuse such as ’씨팔‘ according to a degree with respect to the contents. There are also side-by-side reinforced abuse forms that are combined with words such as ‘년, 놈 and 새끼’, ‘바보 새끼’, and ‘개 같은 놈’, where coarse swear modifiers are added. On the other hand, the types of Indonesian abuse are human nature or nagative human-attribute abuse like ‘gila’, animal abuse like ‘monyet’, ghost abuse like ,setan’, objects abuse like ‘tahu kucing’, body parts abuse like ‘puki mai’, relative relation abuse like ‘bapakmu’, sexual activity abuse like ‘diamput’, and occupation abuse like ‘sundal’. In conclusion, the difference between the types of abuse in Korean and Indonesian is considered abusive if they are shown in social, cultural or religious differences, but cause discomfort to the listener by aggressively conveying words of "fearing, degrading, criticizing, and inferior attitude" to the other party.
