Abstract
This paper discussed the problem of overcoming the pain of disasters arising from unnatural manipulative human behavior through changes in the paradigm and attitude of life, focusing on the concept of “nothing” in Taoist philosophy. Humans do not abandon the tragic situation of life at hand unless they give up the “philosophical question” of seeking a new direction of life in the face of any situation. By asking philosophical questions based on their respective worldviews, they always seek a better new direction of life than they are now. Where there are no questions, there is no way to escape from the temptation of foreign objects or the repressed absurd and unreasonable reality. So, as long as humans are living on this land, they should not miss the “awake consciousness” that will overcome their current precarious and unstable life and switch to an ideal direction. This is because when “awake consciousness” is constantly working, you can find clues to try to change your life without giving in or complaining to the temptation of reality. Taoism also starts with the question of “Why are humans not free?” Taoism focused on “doing(有爲),” or affectation, as the cause of suffering in humans. The causes of affectation can be presented as ‘an untethered gallop of natural life in all directions’, ‘psychological emotions’, and ‘the affection in ideas’. Taoist philosophy is to realize a happy and free life free from the pain that comes from a situation where the problem of life is bound by formal fetters. In order to realize this life, the first concept raised is ‘Wu(無-nothing)’. ‘Wu’ refers to the action of removing ‘artificial act’ and emptying human desires. In Taoism philosophy, it argues for the restoration of vanity as a driving force that changes the paradigm of life and changes the attitude of life. The Tao philosophy emphasizes practical work to overcome the pain of reality and secure human dignity through the presentation of new life directions and ideals while proceeding with critical thinking about the absurdity of reality that caused disaster.
