내러티브 정체성에 대한 비판적 고찰 -자기 의식에 대한 현상학적 연구를 중심으로

본 논문은 자기 의식에 대한 현상학적 연구를 통해 내러티브 정체성을 비판적으로 고찰하여 내러티브적 자기 이해에 대한 현재의 논의를 심화시키고자 한다. 내러티브 정체성은 문학의 내러티브 개념을 자기 이해에 적용한 것으로서 해석학적 방법론에 기초하며, 시간 속에 흩어진 행동과 사건을 통합하여 의미 있는 이야기로 구성해내는 작업을 통해 드러난다. 그것은 기존의 언어와 문화의 지평 안에서 이루어지기에 공동체적이며, 규범적인 성격을 띤다. 한편, 자하비와 갤러거가 주장한 최소한의 자기 의식은 전반성적이며 전언어적인 것으로서 내러티브적 자기보다 더 근원적인 감각을 일컫는다. 그것은 암묵적이고 미묘한 것으로 모든 경험에 현전하며, 나의 경험을 나의 것으로 만들어 준다. 현상학적 최소한의 자기의 관점에서 볼 때, 내러티브 정체성은 추상화와 언어를 통한 변형과 왜곡의 가능성이 있으며, 전언어적이며 전반성적인 자기의 측면을 간과한다는 한계가 있다. 인지과학, 신경과학 등의 영역과 교류하고 있는 자기에 대한 현상학의 최근 연구는 신체화된 경험과 내러티브의 상호작용에 주목함으로써 내러티브 정체성에 대한 논의를 심화시킬 수 있다.
Abstract
This paper intends to deepen the current discussions on narrative self-understanding through phenomenological approaches to self-consciousness. Narrative identity, integrating actions and events scattered in time, is based on the hermeneutical methodology. It is social and normative because it takes place within the existing linguistic and cultural horizons. On the other hand, the minimal self-consciousness claimed by Zahavi and Gallagher refers to a more fundamental sense of the self. It presents in every experience as an implicit and subtle sensation, making my experience mine. From a phenomenological point of view, narrative identity has risks of abstraction and distortion of the self. And it cannot deal with the aspect of the pre-reflective and pre-linguistic of the self. Recent studies of the phenomenological self, which is interacting with areas such as cognitive science and neuroscience, deepen the discussion of current narrative self-understanding by interplaying with the embodied experiences.
