인문사회과학의 탐구방법으로서 내러티브 앎에 대한 고찰

본 연구에서는 학문의 분과화, 전문화로 인해 나타나는 구조적 모순들과 부정적인 영향들을 살펴보고, 이러한 구조적 모순들을 통합할 수 있는 실마리로서 내러티브에 초점을 두었다. 학문에서의 구조적 모순들은 근본적으로 이원론적인 사유 체계에 의해 나타나는 것이며 이러한 구조적 모순들은 인간의 경험의 본질에 대한 재탐색으로부터 해결점을 찾을 수 있다고 보았다. 이러한 점에서 본 연구에서는 언어와 내러티브에 초점을 두고 인간의 경험의 본질에 대해 탐색해보았다. 그 결과, 인간의 경험은 언어 또는 텍스트와 같으며 내러티브적으로 구성된다. 내러티브는 의미를 구성하고 경험을 구조화하는 틀로 활용된다. 자아와 실재는 인간의 경험 안에서 실천적이고 능동적으로 구성된다는 점에서 일원론적이며 이는 내러티브적 앎의 특성을 지닌다. 내러티브적 앎은 살아내기(Living), 이야기하기(Telling), 다시 이야기하기(Retelling), 다시 살아내기(Reliving)의 내러티브 탐구 과정을 통해 구성된다. 즉, 인간은 이러한 내러티브를 활용하여 과거와 현재, 미래를 일관되게 조직하고 지속적으로 환경과 상호작용하면서 경험과 지식을 능동적으로 구성한다.
Abstract
This study examines structural imbalance and side effects due to departmentalizing and specializing in a field of study and puts focus on narrative as a solution which integrates structural contradiction. In study, it is fundamentally caused by dualistic thinking system and its solution is believed to be found by re-searching the nature of human experience. From this point of view, this study inquires into the essence of human experience, focusing on language and narrative. In consequence of this study, human experience is equivalent of language or text and forms narratively. Narrative is used as a framework for constructing meaning and structuring experience. Ego and existence present monistic and narrative knowing in that they are practically and actively made up within human experience. They also suggest that knowledge is composed through the narrative inquiry process of Living, Telling, Retelling, and Reliving. Human beings use narratives to consistently organize past, present, and future and actively construct experiences and knowledge while continuously interacting with the environment.
